First and foremost, the Missionary Baptist Seminary is a preacher school. Inherent in the call to preach is a call to prepare. From the beginning, the seminary was a place where preachers could come and receive the necessary tools to enable them to fulfil their calling. While a seminary cannot make a man a preacher, a seminary can make a man who has been called by God a better preacher.

If God has called you to preach, and you desire to serve the Lord as best you can, then the Missionary Baptist Seminary is for you.

"Pastors Training Pastors"

A seminary is only as good as the faculty, and since its inception, special efforts have been made to ensure quality instructions make up the teaching staff. Since 1934, fewer than one hundred men and women have belonged to the faculty. In the first forty years, several talented women taught English, Etymology, and related subjects at the school. Traditionally, instructors are brought into the school at the suggestion of the administration with the approval of the faculty and the sponsoring church.

Typically, the men who serve on the faculty stay involved for a significant amount of time. Ideally, there is a balanced faculty in regard to the ages of the instructors because you want the experience of the long-term teachers along with the enthusiasm of the younger.

Seminary instructors are not only graduates with master's or doctorate degrees in seminary work, they also are pastors of ABA churches in most cases. The Seminary is not a think-tank institution or an ivory tower operation: the Seminary is a "rubber meets the road" school where what the teachers are teaching in the classroom comes from the real world where they are serving with real-life experience. Pastors Training Pastors is not just a slogan; it is the creed of the Seminary.

With special offerings, the Seminary supports the continuing education of our faculty by helping underwrite part of the expenses of training and instruction that will improve their ministry and teaching skills. Several of our instructors are working toward higher degrees in their fields of study. The students at the Seminary will be the beneficiaries of that educational pursuit.

How to Enroll

Application Process: If you plan to become a student of Missionary Baptist Seminary within the next 12 months, please complete the application for admission and submit it via email to the Admissions Office. You can also contact the Admissions Office to ask if we can mail you an Application for Admission. Former students of Missionary Baptist Seminary can be readmitted. Those who have not attended within the past three years will have to apply as a new student. Within a three-year time period from previous enrollment at Missionary Baptist Seminary, former students may be readmitted through the Admissions Office.

Admission Requirements: Applicants for admission to the Missionary Baptist Seminary are evaluated regarding personal moral character and compatibility with the purpose and philosophy of the seminary. The seminary was founded to train pastors, missionaries, and other church workers. Emphasis is placed upon teaching Bible knowledge, Bible study skills, and related ministry applications. Only those desiring this specialized training should apply for admission. Sincerity of commitment to the ideals of the Christian lifestyle and service is expected of all students. Submission to the doctrinal teachings of the seminary and Antioch Baptist Church is required. Admission is a privilege to be given and not a right to be demanded. If disagreement exists concerning the doctrinal statement, the applicant will provide a written statement of said disagreement. Although not required for admission, a high school diploma or equivalent is required for graduation.

Students transferring from member schools of the American Baptist Association of Theological Schools may receive credit for applicable work completed if an official transcript of the work is presented and the grade is "B" or above. Credit for courses will be granted at the discretion of the Administration. The courses transferred must meet the equivalence of the courses offered by the seminary. The office of the Dean of Students must document all transfer credit approvals. Admission to one program of study does not constitute admission to any other program. Application must be made and all requirements met.

Degree Programs

There are several different degree programs that are designed to fit your needs. Below is a brief description of those programs. For more information or to inquire about enrollment, please call (501)455-4588.

For students who want a 30-hour Bible Study program for personal enrichment, the Seminary offers a Thirty-Hour Bible Certificate for the equivalent of one full year of courses designed to give a broad, basic Bible foundation to all recipients. Not for students who intend to stay for an Associate degree or higher
The Associate in Bible program is designed for students who wish to prepare for general Christian service. Students preparing for a pastoral ministry are encouraged to take the Bachelor of Theology program. To receive the Associate in Bible degree the student must complete sixty semester hours of study with a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average. The student must complete twelve semester hours of general education courses, twenty-two hours of Bible courses, and twelve hours of ministry courses.
The Bachelor of Theology program is designed for those preparing for pastoral ministries. To receive the degree, the student must complete 128 semester hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0. After completing the basic courses, the student may choose an emphasis in theology or Bible languages. All students are required to complete the following core curriculum.
The Bachelor of Bible may be awarded for the satisfactory completion of 120 semester hours as described. In addition to the requirements for the Associate in Bible the student must complete twenty-eight semester hours of Bible courses with a junior or senior classification and twelve semester hours of ministry courses with a junior or senior classification. A cumulative grade point average of 2.0 overall is required.
A Master’s program is available to the college graduate. This program requires 90 hours of study on campus. It is designed with the needs of each student in mind. The Dean of Students and the student work out the details.

The doctorate program of study in the Missionary Baptist Seminary is designed for those individuals who have completed undergraduate and graduate degrees from this institution (or equivalent degrees from ABATS schools). The student must have proven competence in actual ministry with at least three (3) years of pastoral experience and a desire to do advanced studies in directed research and formal writing.

Financial Aid

The Missionary Baptist Seminary does not participate in state or federal government financial aid programs. The seminary is a faith ministry of Antioch Baptist Church. The operation of the school is supported by the contributions of interested individuals and churches. Student registration fees and tuition cover only a small percentage of the general expenses of the seminary. Cost to the student is kept at a minimum as an act of Christian service. The Missionary Baptist Seminary is approved as a nonprofit charitable religious educational institution under section 501(c) 3 of the Internal Revenue Service Code. The seminary will help with planned giving arrangements provided under the current federal tax laws. Thoughtful supporters of the seminary have made provision for this ministry of Christian education by naming the Missionary Baptist Seminary and Institute in their wills.

American Baptist Association (ABA) Scholarship: A student who has been a member for at least one year of a supporting American Baptist Association Church may receive a scholarship in the amount of his tuition. Recipients are also eligible for subsidized housing. A student must qualify for the ABA scholarship to be eligible for any other scholarships or awards. The scholarship award ceases on the date the student is no longer a member of an ABA church. There are some non-ABA scholarships available. These are based on merit and scholarship, and need.

Honors Scholarships: The student in each year classification who earns the highest cumulative grade point average at the end of each school year may be awarded an honors scholarship for the following school year. The scholarship will help the student with expenses while attending the seminary. The student must meet the hour requirements for each year and must enroll for the next term. If the student withdraws before the end of the term, the scholarship will be forfeited.

Housing

Family Housing

The school offers affordable housing for rent to students with families. To qualify for an apartment, a student must be accepted for admission and must qualify for the American Baptist Association Scholarship.
